Breeding Vizslas has never been about simply finding a male and a female and putting them together. If it were that easy, the breed would have lost itself long ago. True breeding is about the intention - choosing the RIGHT female and RIGHT male, with a clear understanding of what each pairing is meant to preserve.
The Vizsla is an ancient breed, developed by the Magyars - a nomadic people who depended on their dogs not as accessories but essential partners in survival. These dogs hunted alongside them, lived closely with them, and worked with sensitivity, endurance and intelligence. Our responsibility as a breeder is not just to produce puppies, but to act as a steward of the breed. To ensure that future Vizslas are still capable of doing the work they were created for, while also being loyal, sensitive companions, they have always been.
Endurance and economy of movement are not aesthetic traits - they are survival traits passed down from centuries of purposeful breeding. A good nose is only valuable if the dog knows how to use it, actively searching the kind of habitat that holds birds, reading the wind, and working with intention rather than chaos. A soft mouth is not optional; it reflects restraint, cooperation and trust between dog and handler. These traits must be protected just as carefully as the structure.
